We are excited and look forward to seeing you at the conference. Please take some time to read our notes for preparing to visit Thailand!
1) Things to bring
- Chiang Mai is hot and humid. Air conditioners will be running strong in all the rooms. So we suggest you dress in layers.
- Dress code is casual. T-shirts and shorts are ok! Thailand is a conservative country, so we suggest modest clothing.
- The hotel has several beautiful swimming pools. Bring your swimsuit!
- There are chances of rain, sometimes heavy. Bring an umbrella or raincoat. Usually the hotel room has an umbrella you can borrow.
- As in any tropical places, there are mosquitos. Bring repellents.
2) Upon Arrival
- Have this in hand when you arrived, for completing your arrival card:
Horizon Village & Resort
200 Chiangmai-Doisaket Hwy. Route 118
Choeng Doi, Doi Saket District, Chiang Mai 50220, Thailand
Phone: +66 53 292 381
- The Chiang Mai airport is small. When you exit the arrival area, go left and find Starbucks by Gate#2 INSIDE the building. There will be people with a sign that says “Calvary Chapel”. They will provide the shuttle to the hotel.
- There is a money exchange at the airport. You might want to get some Thai Bahts there. The rate is reasonable (see below for more details).
3) Money Matters
DO NOT plan to pay for your room and conference fee (to the hotel) using anything other than Thai Baht or credit card. If you use any other currency, the exchange rate will be terrible.
DO NOT plan to exchange money at the hotel. The money exchange at the airport is reasonable. You can exchange a small amount there.
You probably won’t be spending a lot of cash while you are at the conference as almost all the meals are covered by the conference fee. There is a small restaurant within the ground for the meals that are not included and you can bill it to your room so you can pay with your credit card at the end.
The hotel has a free shuttle to go into town in the afternoons/evenings. Once you’re in town, there are lots of money-exchange places where you can exchange more money for buying souvenirs or food. Just check the rate before you exchange. Most of the rates are very good.
There is also an ATM machine located right outside the ground of the hotel.
